What LernNest is!
LernNest grew out of my love for the German language and my wish to help children develop their language skills and be there for them with their homework. I want to offer them a place where they can experience German in a relaxed and personal atmosphere – with room for curiosity, movement, and playful learning. The proximity to the German School of Rome and Villa Doria Pamphilj park provides an ideal setting for this.
I tailor the activities to each child’s age and individual needs. Depending on the situation, we work on homework across all subjects and prepare for upcoming tests. A particular focus is on strengthening German language skills: this includes targeted practice of grammar and vocabulary, reading (picture) books, and role play. The programme in the park is adapted to the children’s interests and combined with varied learning games (such as nature-explorer games, storytelling walks, and colour-and-shape hunts).
About Me Eva Walter
I am a native German speaker with a German Abitur (secondary-school diploma) and a Magister Artium degree in German Studies and History. Over ten years of experience as an editor and English–German translator have given me a deep understanding of language, which I now bring to fostering children’s language learning.
As the mother of two daughters, aged 15 and 12, both of whom attend the German School of Rome, I know everyday school life and the expectations placed on children in a German-language education system firsthand – knowledge that also feeds into the homework routine and test preparation I offer.
I want to create a place where children feel accepted and can develop their strengths. German should not just be the language of instruction, but part of a lively, shared time together. It is precisely this combination of personal guidance, language, and enjoyment of learning that lies behind the name LernNest.
My Motivation
As a language expert and native speaker, I want to show children that language is not just learned, but experienced. With empathy, patience, and a genuine enthusiasm for teaching, I guide each child – both linguistically and with their schoolwork – on their own learning journey.
My Goal
My goal is to develop children’s German language skills and support them in everyday school life – in a calm, varied, family-friendly environment where they can build confidence and enjoy learning. Throughout our time together, we speak German, strengthening the children’s language skills naturally through conversation, games, reading, movement, and creative activities. I help children with all school subjects and give them effective learning strategies for independent, structured work.
